Quick recap of my experience at the AI Engineer World's Fair
I just published another video on my channel to recap a busy week on the conference circuit in San Francisco.
I attended an event called "AI Engineer World's Fair and Figma's Config conference". It felt like the tech version of Barbie Oppenheimer because both massive events were happening right across the street from each other at the same time.

The week was a bit different because Claude 3.5 Sonnet launched right as I was starting another project. It blew everything else out of the water.
At the AI Engineer conference, Perplexity showed off their new search. It failed on the first try but worked the second time.
I also caught a session from Discord where they explained their Clyde bot.
They shared a funny story about a user who tricked the bot into giving instructions for napalm by pretending it was his deceased grandmother.
Engineering Hype
I checked out several other sessions, including talks from the founders of Codium and Cursor.
The hype in 2024 is real, but it is clearly going to take some time for these tools to fully mature. I also ran into my buddy Paul from Browserbase.
If you are building automations, you should definitely check them out.
Design Nerds
I needed a break from the AI crowd, so I went down the block to the Moscone Center for the design nerds at Config.
Figma had some pretty rad setups, including two different aura capturing stations. It was a great contrast to the technical side of the AI events.
Even the expo floor at the AI conference had some cool stuff, like a robot arm making high precision latte art.
Conclusion
San Francisco was buzzing with energy between the AI and design communities. From technical talks about LLM evals to robotic coffee and aura capturing, it was a packed week of learning.
The takeaway from both conferences is that while the hype is at an all time high, the people building these tools are focused on making them reliable for production.
It is an exciting time to be in the middle of all this innovation.
